Abstract

The issues of performance and factors affecting performance are not adequately addressed in many of Asian countries. So the study aims to identify the correlation between structural empowerment and competencies of nurse managers on the performance of staff nurses. A correlational study conducted in a tertiary care hospital Muscat, 82 staff nurses and 28 nurse managers were selected as sample for the study. The results revealed, only 28% of nurses responded that their organization is providing them enough resources in their job. Majority 69.5% of nurse responded that they have good information about the goals and policies of their organization. Majority 85.4% responded that their organization is providing some power to carry out their job. Performance of nurses were depend on their job empowerment and did not depend on their nurse managers'competencies
