Abstract

This research study is on assessment of knowledge and practice of prevention and control of Hospital Acquired Infection (HAI) has been conducted among 45 staff nurses working at Mehta's hospital Pvt., Ltd., Chetpet, Chennai. Based on the eligibility requirement, as per the demographic variables selected for this study, the samples were randomly chosen and the questionnaires were given. The questionnaire consists of three sections. On analyzing the result, it was found that the knowledge and practice of GNM staffs at the beginner's stage, i. e. till their experience level becomes approximately 4 years, is better than the B.Sc. nurses, whereas it is vice versa after 4 years of clinical experience. So, based on these findings it has been suggested that adequate importance has to be given to the concept of HAI/Nosocomial Infections, from study period itself so that there would not be any such difference in knowledge and performance level of staffnurses, and be it any qualification or years of experience.
