Self instructional module on Central Venous Pressure (CVP) monitoring among staff nurses in selected hospitals, Bangalore

The aim of the present study is to assess the effectiveness of a self-instructional module on CVP monitoring among staff nurses. 1) Assess the knowledge of staff nurses regarding CVP monitoring. 2) Prepare a self-instructional module on CVP monitoring for staffnurses. 3) Evaluate the effectiveness of a self-instructional module on CVP monitoring. 4) Determine the association between the mean pretest knowledge of staff nurses regarding CVP monitoring with selected socio-demographic variables. One group pre test post test pre experimental design was selected for the study. The participants were 60 staff nurses from selected hospitals at Bangalore. A purposive sampling technique was used to select the sample for study. A structured knowledge questionnaire is used to collect data from the subjects. The obtained data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics and interpreted in terms of objectives and hypothesis of the study. The level of significance was set at O. 05 levels. The overall pretest knowledge scores of staff nurses on CVP monitoring found to be (53.9%) with a standard deviation of 10.9. The overall post test knowledge score of staff nurses on CVP monitoring is noticed to be (88.9%) with a standard deviation of (8.0). A significant association was found between age (χ² 8.33), marital status (χ² 9.44), exposure to in-service education in CVP (χ² 8.98), and area of working and knowledge (χ² 18.13). In the pre test, majority of the sample (36 out of 60, 60%) had moderate Knowledge regarding CVP monitoring and the remaining 40% (24 out of 60) had inadequate Knowledge, where as in the post test majority (80%, 48 out of 60) of the samples has obtained adequate knowledge regarding Central Venous Pressure (CVP) Monitoring and remaining 20% (12 out of 60) obtained moderately adequate knowledge regarding Central Venous Pressure (CVP) Monitoring. These findings indicate that the SIM was effective in enhancing the knowledge of the staff nurses regarding CVP monitoring.
