Abstract

This true experimental research study has been conducted for 60 primi gravid mothers with 37–40 weeks of gestation who got admitted for safe confinement at Govt. Rajaji Hospital, Madurai. Based on simple random sampling method, the samples were divided into experimental & control group (30 in each group). State trait anxiety inventory has been used to measure the pre test anxiety level in both the groups. Then, video teaching programme regarding labour process and its coping mechanism has been shown for 15–20 minutes for the experimental group in a separate room whereas, the control group was given the routine care. The post test has been conducted after 24 hours interval using the same Anxiety Inventory tool. The mean pre test score was 61.10 and the post test score was 34.87 in the experimental group and the anxiety reduction score was 26.23. (test t=19.79 and p=0.001). In the control group, the mean pre test score was 60.30 and the mean post test score was 59. The anxiety reduction score was only 1.30. (t=0.59 and p=0.55). These findings supported the use of video teaching programme in reducing anxiety among primi gravid mothers.
