Effect of Exercise in Improving Quality of Life of Patient's with Parkinson's Disease: A Systemic Review

Abstract

A review was done in the existing studies evaluating the effectiveness of physical exercise on improving the muscle strength, balance, flexibility, mobility, gait of the patients diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. The database were searched using several key words related to title and subject of the review. Literature was also archived. The following keywords were used in combinations: Parkinson's disease, Parkinsonism, exercise, physical activity, physical therapy, rehabilitation etc. Studies were eligible if 1) only patients with Parkinson's disease were included in the intervention study. 2) The intervention included some form of physical physical or therapeutic exercise, 3) the effects of physical exercise were evaluated, 4) the studies were published in refereed journal. However, few studies were found that dealt with Parkinson's disease patient's exclusively, all studies that evaluated the effectiveness of physical exercise for only Parkinson's disease patients were included. Results of the studies were measured in terms of physical improvements in patients with Parkinson's disease such as muscle strength, balance, flexibility, mobility, gait, short steps after undergoing the some kind of physical exercises. The result of research review support that the patients diagnosed with Parkinson's disease undergoes physical therapy exercises can improve their physical performance and activity of daily living.
