Information Received from Health Personnel about Selected Aspects of Hospitalization as Expressed by The Family Caregivers

A descriptive study design was used to assess the level of satisfaction regarding the information received from health personnel about selected aspects of hospitalization as expressed by the family caregivers of patients admitted in surgical intensive care unit of tertiary care hospital. A total of 20 subjects were selected using convenience sampling technique. Data was collected by interview method using a self made satisfaction tool on selected aspects of information about hospitalization. The analysis findings showed that majority (73%) were moderately satisfied with the information received. In selected aspects of the information received, majority were highly satisfied about waiting area (72.7%) and visiting protocol (90.9%), moderately satisfied about patient care (54.5%) and dissatisfied about the facilities available (72.7%). The findings also revealed that there was no association of socio demographic variables and clinical variables with level of satisfaction (p>.05). The findings suggest there is a need to provide adequate information about the selected aspects at the time of admission and keep updating them to the family care givers through daily counseling. Nurses in critical care unit can act as a liason between the family and the other health personnel in order to provide quality information.
