Abstract

An experiment was conducted during 2001–2002 and 2002–2003 with object to standardize the length of rhizome and number of feeder roots for successful clonal propagation of alstroemeria (Alstroemeria hybrids) through in vivo technique. The experiment was carried out under semi-controlled polyhouse conditions in the month of October. The significantly higher percentage of successful survival of plants (95.33) was recorded under 2.1–2.6 cm length of rhizome with 3–4 feeder roots. It was also observed that the maximum plant multiplication rate was recorded by 1.0–1.5 cm length of rhizome with 1–2 feeder roots, followed by 1.6–2.0 cm length of rhizome with 2–3 feeder roots. Growth parameters, viz., number of shoots, shoot height and number of leaves per shoot were recorded highest in treatment consisting of length of rhizome of 2.1–2.6 cm with 3–4 feeder roots.
