Garden Beauty-A Promising Chrysanthemum (Dendranthema Grandiflora Tzvelre.) Cultivar for Garden Decoration

Abstract

Studies were carried at the Research Farm of Department of Floriculture and Landscaping, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, with an objective to develop varieties suitable as cut flower, loose flower, pot culture and garden decoration purposes. The recently released chrysantnemum (Dendranthema grandiflora Tzveler.) cv. Garden Beauty (an open pollinated seedling of Flirt) is a tall cultivar having plant height of 70.13 cm with plant spread of 50.50 cm. It has exhibited 72.67 flowers per plant, having size of 9.97 cm. The large sized spoon type maroon flowers gave this cultivar a brilliant look in the garden. The number of sprays per plant and number of flowers per spray had been reported to be 8.07 and 9.67, respectively. On the other hand, the length of spray had been observed as 58.73 cm. Garden Beauty is a late season cultivar which took 131.67 day for flowering (from transplanting) with long duration of flowering (22.67 day). The weight of individual flower had been reported to be 2.35 g.
