Cultivation of Gladiolus: a Promising Enterprise for Income Generation in Haryana

Abstract

To explore the economic feasibility of cultivation of gladiolus, study was study in Sonepat and Panipat districts of Haryana state purposively by selecting 4 villages randomly. Results revealed that total manday's required for gladiolus crop were 89.37/acre. Maximum manday's (30.00) were required for hoeing/weeding followed by sowing (20.00) and transportation (15.00). Operational cost per acre was accounted 7.60 per cent of the total costs. Among the total operational cost, hoeing/weeding had major share Z72 per cent. Similarly, per acre material cost was accounted for 81.28 per cent of the total cost. Seed was major item in material cost which accounted for 68.16 per cent of total cost, since as many as 60, 000 bulbs were required. Fixed cost was found to be Rs. 9, 764.80 out of which rental value of land was the major component accounted for 5.68 per cent of total cost. The per acre returns for gladiolus cultivation were Rs. 70, 994.80 after deducting total cost of Rs. 88, 005.20 from the gross return Rs. 1, 59, 000 per acre. Income/sick was Rs. 1.69 and per person was Rs. 7, 099.48.
