A study was conducted to ascertain the effect of polyamines in vase solution on postharvest life of gladiolus cut spikes. Polyamines significantly improved fresh weight, uptake of vase solution, flower opening and vase life. Spermine 100 ppm + 4% sucrose, spermine 500 ppm + 4% sucrose, putrescine 100 ppm + 4% sucrose, spermidine 100 ppm + 4% sucrose and spermidine 500 ppm + 4% sucrose ssgnificantly improved vase life over control and sucrose 4%. Polyamines delayed senescence and improved vase life of cut spikes by improving membrane stability.
