Shoot tips of Heliconia chartacea var. Sexy Pink were successfully established in vitro in MS medium supplemented with 5.0 mg l−1 BA. For multiple shoot proliferation via enhanced release of axillary buds, 5.0 mg l−1 Kinetin and 0.2 mg l−1 NAA added to the MS medium gave best results. Earliest rooting was observed in plain MS medium. The rooted plantlets were successfully established in sand and recorded 90 per cent survival under field conditions.
