Abstract

A protocol was developed for in vitro propagation of Petunia hybrida Vilm. Multiple shoot formation was noticed on Murashige and Skoog's medium supplemented with 3 mg 1−1 6 benzylaminopurine from stem explants and 2 mg 1−1 6−benzylaminopurine from axillary bud explants. Shoot elongation occurred on MS medium supplemented with 0.5 mg 1−1 and 0.75 mg 1−1 of gibberellic acid for stem and axillary bud explants. Efficient rooting was achieved on half strength MS medium supplemented with 0.5 mg 1−1 indole 3-butyric acid and 0.5 mg 1−1 indole 3-acetic acid. The regenerated plantlets were acclimatized and successfully transferred to the ex vitro condition.
