Abstract

In an experiment to study the effect of chemical preservatives on post harvest quality of Daisy, maximum fr~sh weight of flowers was noticed in treatments 8-HQS 0.4 per cent (116.7%) followed by 0.2 per cent (116.00%) on sixth day which were significantly superior over all other treatments. Among all the treatments, the flowers kept in vase solution containing chemicals like 8-HQS at 0.4 per cent, had high amount of water uptake of 239.09 g. Flower stalks which absorbed the maximum amount of water were the ones which also lost the maximum amount ofwater of 244.33 (8-HQS at 0.4%). Daisy flower spikes held in 8-HQS at 0.4 filer cent and 0.2%, had minimum water loss and uptake ratio of 1.02 and 1.01 respectively. The flower stalks held in solutions having 8-HQS at 0.4 per cent and 0.2 per cent had significantly enhanced the vase life and recorded the longest vase life of 10.53 and 9.80 days respectively.
