Abstract

An experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of combined treatments of pulsing, precooling and packaging on quality and vase life of cut rose stems. The stems were subjected to various treatments for different durations. Among all the treatments, cut roses pulsed with Sucrose 5% + 8HQC 150ppm for 20 h, precooled at 4°C for 24 h and packaged with CFB sheet for 16 h in CFB box shows a considerable increase in quality and enhanced vase life of 12.16 days as compared to control treatment which recorded a vase life of 7.67 days only. Therefore, suggested as best combination treatment for extending the vase life and quality in terms of trade and transportation to different floricultural markets. However, the flowers pulsed with Sucrose 5% + 8HQC 150 ppm for 20 h, precooled at 4°C for 24 h but not packaged, show the increase in vase life of 12.67 days. In general, the enhanced fresh weight, water uptake and flower diameter together improves the flower quality and vase life.
