Abstract

An investigation was carried out to evaluate the influence of different biocidal, anti ethylene compounds and sucrose on the vase life of Narcissus (daffodil) cv. California. Holding solution comprised of 8HQS (100 and 200 ppm), Silver nitrate (100 and 200 ppm), CaCl2 (100 and 200 ppm), GA3 (100 and 200 ppm), Al2 (SO4)3 (100 and 200 ppm), Sucrose (2%, 4% and 6%) and their combinations. Out of the 44 treatments tested in the experiment, 2% sucrose in combination with 200 ppm 8HQS resulted in increased solution uptake (11.60 ml), flower diameter (8.85 cm), vase life (15.60 days) while as minimum values for solution uptake(5.20 ml), flower diameter (5.50 cm) and vase life (9.00) was recorded with 6% sucrose.
