Rose is one of the most popular flowering ornamentals in the world. Presently, it is a commercial cut flower and a favourite ornamental for landscaping. Most of the modern rose varieties are the result of hybridization, selection and mutation. In floriculture industry, demand and quest for novelty is increasing day by day due to change in taste and fashion. Mutation breeding has been widely recognized as a useful complimentary tool for the improvement of modern day roses. The details of utilization of mutation breeding techniques for development of novel traits in roses are presented here under this review.
