Abstract

The response of eight culture media on protocorm like bodies (PLB) multiplication and differentiation of four Cymbidium cultivars, viz. Levis Duke ‘Bella Vista ’, Vivacious ‘Super White ’, Pine Clash ‘Moon Venus ’and Margaret Thatcher ‘Perfection ’was studied. There was a significant difference in biomass, PLB number, the number of shoots/explant and shoot formation frequency among the cultivars. Pine Clash ‘Moon Venus ’produced the highest biomass per explant (459.60 mg) and number of PLBs (31.29), Vivacious ‘Super White ’gave the highest number of shoots (5.58) per explant. The highest shoot formation frequency (40.64%) was observed in Margaret Thatcher ‘Perfection ’. Margaret Thatcher ‘Perfection ’had maximum shoot formation frequency (61.95%) on SH medium followed by Levis Duke ‘Bella Vista ’on B5 medium (53.85).
