Abstract

An experiment was conducted in Horticulture Research Farm, Department of Horticulture, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, U.P. to study the effect of putrescine on plant growth and flowering characters in cornflower. Experiment was laid out in Randomized Block Design with four replications. Transplanting of one month old healthy and disease free seedlings of cornflower was done during the month of November, 2021. There were 9 treatment combinations of putrescine (1.00 m mol, 1.25 mmol, 1.50 m mol, 1.75 m mol, 2.00 m mol, 2.25 m mol, 2.50 m mol, 2.75 m mol and 3.00 m mol) along with control. Putrescine @ 2.75 mmol showed maximum plant height, plant spread, no. of primary and secondary branches at 90 DAT, no. of flowers/plant, pedicel length and dry weight of flower. Whereas, earliest bud development, flower blooming and maximum bud diameter were noticed in 2.50 m mol of putrescine.
