Abstract

HWT of gladiolus conns (50°C; 30 min) was not consistently found to give good control of rot caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. gladioli; Rather, it often had adverse effect on corm sprouting and plant growth. Chemical treatment of Emisan-6 (0.2%, 10 min dip) was found to be significantly better than HWT. It is concluded that there is no need to go in for HWT when more effective chemical treatments exist. The chemical treatments are, moreover, easy to apply and do not suffer from the drawback of precisely controlling the temperature.
