Abstract

Using data on yield of eight commercial floriculture crops viz. rose, China aster, chrysanthemum, gladiolus, marigold, tuberose, gerbera and carnation; optimum sample sizes were worked out for 95 and 99% of confidence for an interval not exceeding 5 and 10% of the mean. It was observed that there existed a wide variation of the optimum sample size between years. For normally acceptable level of 95% and the sample mean falling within 10% of the actual mean, a maximum of 20% of plants in rose, 54% in China aster, 21% in chrysanthemum, 17% in gladiolus, 11% in African marigold, 40% in tuberose (Single) 7% in gerbera, and 11% in carnation, are to be sampled to get better estimates.
