Abstract

The pulsed (DMSO 2% for 15 min) and precooled (4°C for 6 h) flowers wrapped with butter paper for 12 h in CFB box had better vase life (10.17 day) of cut flowers of cv. Super Star rose. However, wrapping the flowers in butter paper for 20 h slightly decreased vase life (10.00 day). The wrapping in brown paper for 12 h resulted in vase life of 8.50 day followed by wrapping the flowers in CFB sheet for 12 h, where the vase life of flowers was recorded to be 8.17 day. It was observed that pulsed and precooled flowers which were not packed showed the maximum increase in vase life (11.00 day) and also resulted in maximum gain in fresh weight (0.88 g), flower diameter (8.86 cm) and water uptake (21.60 ml). However, in control, the vase life was recorded to be only 6.33 day.
