Abstract

An experiment was laid out to investigate the effect of pulsing with different chemicals on postharvest life of six cut chrysanthemum cultivars viz., Flirt, Aparajita, Lysid, Yellow Bangla, Yellow Gold and Red Gold. Another experiment was laid out by storing the pulsed cut flowers in three storage conditions viz., distilled water, perforated polythene bags kept in cardboard box and bamboo basket. Out of three storage condition, distilled water was considered as the best storage condition followed by perforated polythene bag. Amongst the cultivars, Aparajita and Yellow Bangla gave maximum gain in fresh weight on 3rd day, minimum loss in fresh weight at senescence and maximum vase life. All pulsing treatments viz., 0.5 mM STS, 1.0 mM STS, 1.0 mM AgNO3 and 2.0 mM AgNO3 performed better than those pulsed in distilled water. Best pulsing period recorded was 15 minute.
