Abstract

Carnation cv. Sunrise was planted in different growing media viz., soil + FYM + and (2:1:1), soil + FYM + cocopeat (2:1:1) and soil + FYM + sawdust (2:1:1) and fertigated (100 ppm N and 140 ppm K) with water soluble fertilizers, commercial straight fertilzers and water soluble fertilizers in bio-fertilizer inoculated plants. The results revealed that soil + FYM + cocopeat (2:1:1) to be the best medium for important parameters such as plant height, flower bud diameter, stem length and vase life, when inoculated with bio-fertilizers [VAM + Azospirillum + phosphate solubilizing bacteria (PSB)] and fertigated with water soluble fertilizers. Maximum number of days taken to first flowering was observed in growing medium of soil + FYM + sand (2:1:1) when applied through commercial straight fertilizers.
