Abstract

In addition to three basic corolla colours (pink, white and oscillatus) in periwinkle {Catharanthus roseus) eight different variants were observed in oscillatus type. To study the basis for this variation, quantification of corolla pigments (anthocyanins, anthocyanidins and flavonols) was done. The contents of anthocyanin and anthocyanidins were reduced from deep pink corolla to white coloured corolla. Favonol pigments did not show any definite trend with respect to variation in corolla colour.
