Abstract

A field experiment was carried out at College Instructional Farm, Department of Horticulture, Junagadh Agricultural University, Junagadh in summer season during 1996. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with three replications. Nineteen cultivars of hybrid tea rose and 10 cultivars of Floribunda group were evaluated in two separate experiments under South Saurashtra conditions of Gujarat. The performance of different varieties of rose on flower yield, stem length of flower, flower diameter and flower weight were found significant. The results revealed that cv. Peace recorded maximum flower yield per plant under Hybrid tea group, whereas, cv. Samba recorded highest number of flowers per plant in Floribunda group. In case of stem length of flowers, cvs. Eiffel Tower and Dickson's Flame recorded maximum in the Hybrid tea group and Floribunda rose, respectively. Cultivar Gladiator recorded maximum flower diameter and weight in Hybrid tea group, while cvs. Zorina and Dickson's Flame recorded highest flower weight and flower diameter in Floribunda group. It is concluded-that rose cultivars like Peace, Eiffel Tower, Gladiator in Hybrid tea group and Samba, Dickson's Flame and Zorina in Floribunda group gave better performance in summer under South Suarashtra conditions of Gujarat.
