Abstract

An experiment was carried out to study the vegetative growth, flower yield and quality of standard carnation under low cost poly house condition at Department of Floriculture and Landscape Gardening, KRCCH, Arabhavi, during 2000-01 with ten cultivars. Cultivars Madame Collette, Alma, Sugar Baby and Candy recorded better vegetative growth. Days taken for flower initiation was less in cultivars Leon (55 days) and Sorriso (71 days) and was medium in cultivars Alma (97.33 days), Madame Collette (92.33 days) and Sugar Baby (90.67 days).Cultivars Madame Collette, Alma and Sugar Baby recorded maximum yield (4.56,4.18 and 4.12 flowers/plant) whereas, Cultivar Leon recorded minimum yield (2.82 flowers/plant). Better quality flowers were obtained in cultivars Madame Collette, Alma, Sugar Baby and Desio.
