Abstract

Studies on in vitro bud initiation and shoot multiplication was carried out in Gladiolus grandiflorus (L.) cv. Vinksglory. Buds were initiated from the cormels which were used as the source of the explants. The cormels were surface sterilized in 0.08 per cent mercuric chloride and cultured in MS medium supplemented with BAP (2.0 mg l−1) and NAA (1.0 mg l−1). Different combinations of the growth regulators kinetin, BAP and NAA were tried for further shoot multiplication. MS medium supplemented with BAP (2.00 mg H) and NAA (0.75 mg l−1) gave the highest percent age of shoots.
