Abstract

The investigations were carried out to extent the post harvest life of gladiolus cv. American, Beauty through floral preservatives like sucrose and AgNO3 The various concentrations of sucrose and AgNO3 significantly enhance the uptake of water, number of florets opened per day, total number of florets opened per spike and vase life of gladiolus spikes. The pulsing gladiolus spike in sucrose 5% recorded significant superiority than other pulsing treatment and control (distilled water). The pulsing treatment with 5% sucrose recorded significantly maximum vase life of 17.25 days with maximum number of florets opened (12.00 and 85.71%) as compared to control (9.50 days) and proved best pulsing treatment for prolonging the vase life along with maximum number of florets opened in gladiolus spike cv. American Beauty.
