The present investigation dealt with the effect of chemicals on the anthocyanins content during vase life period of cut rose cv. ‘First Red'. Chemicals belonging to different groups had been employed in the holding solution either individually or in combination to find out their effect on the anthocyanins content From the observations, sodium hypochlorite 20ppm+Sucrose 3% combination followed by sodium hypochlorite 20ppm+Ascorbic acid 150 ppm+Sucrose 3%, calcium nitrate 250 ppm in combination with sodium hypochlorite 20ppm as well as ascorbic acid 150 ppm have registered least changes in the anthocyanins content throughout the vase life period. Further, these treatments have recorded longer vase life and no bluing of petals was observed.
