A study was carried out on flowering characters of common flowering trees, shrubs and climbers in and around Jorhat city of Assam to prepare year round colour schemes for effective landscaping. Four agro-ecological situations in the Jorhat district were selected for identifying the flowering trees, shrubs and climbers. A total number of 27 flowering trees, 24 flowering shrubs and 15 flowering climbers were studied for their duration of flowering, peak flowering month and common flower colour. Maximum 21 numbers of plants (8 trees, 8 shrubs and 5 climbers) were found in peak flowering condition in the month of April; which thus provides much scope for selection of plants to the planners. In the month of February, May and June total 11,10 and 9 plants were found in peak flowering condition, respectively. In the month of January no plants were in peak flowering condition followed by August (only one) and July (only two). Among the trees Spathodia campanulata flowered for a maximum period. Among the shrubs Ixora spp., Thevetia nerifolia, Tabernemontana coronaria, Mussaenda phillipica, Bougaivillea spp. Lantana spp. flowered for almost throughout the year. Allamanda cathertica, Bougaivillea spp and Clerodendron thomsonae were the longest period flowering climbers. Among the flower colours, pink, scarlet, white, yellow, blue were common.
