Evaluation of Tropicalplant Species for Foliage Characters

Abstract

A study was conducted at College of Horticulture, Kerala Agricultural University Tirissur, to evaluate the suitability of 27 different foliage plant species for their use as cut foliage. Considerable variation could be observed with respect to quantitative and qualitative parameters. Species such as Ncphrolepis cordifolia and Ophiopogon jaburan Variegatus are suitable as linears, whereas large leaved species like Monstera deliciosa, Philodendron selloum and P. wendlandii are suitable as background materials in larger arrangements and smaller leaved ones like Aglaonema modestum]uniperus excelsa and Selaginella pidchcrrima could be used in smaller arrangements.
