Abstract

A study was conducted to evaluate nine exotic cultivars of gerbera namely, Diablo, Lyonella, Ornella, Sunset, Tara, Thalassa, Tiramisu, Twiggy and Whitsun, for their postharvest qualities under distilled water. Cut flowers were evaluated in two sets i.e. one set in their respective yielded flower stalk length and another set wherein cut flower stalks length were trimmed equally to 50 cm. The better vase life and strong stalk length were observed in cvs. Lyonella (9.83, 9.83 day, +++), Tiramisu (9.66, 9.63 day, +++) and Twiggy (9.62, 9.20 day, +++). The poor vase life and cut flower stalk strength were obtained in Diablo (6.06, 5.06 day, +) followed by Tara (6.67, 6.23 day, +) in both sets of flower stalks, respectively. The higher fresh weight of flower stalk was obtained in cvs. Twiggy (31.06, 27.00, 21.00 g).
