Effect of Gibberellic Acid Treatment on Plant Growth, Flowering and Bulb Production in Chincherinchee (Onithogalum Thyrsoides)

The bulbs of Chincherinchee (Ornithogalum thyrsoides) were treated with different concentrations of GA₃ (0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 ppm) for 0, 8, 16 and 24 h before planting. Treatment with GA₃@ 150 ppm for 24 h was recorded to be the best for plant height (29.24 cm), plant spread (14.51 cm), leaf area (60.16 cm), number or scapes/bulb (4.11), scape length (51.56 cm) and longer flowering duration (39.81 day). Soaking of bulbs for 8 h produced wider plant spread (12.72 cm) and more number of scapes (3.91/bulb). Prolonged soaking resulted in increased bulb weight (4.83 g) and diameter (2.57 cm).
