Abstract

Effect of stem length and panicle weight on postharvest quality in golden rod (Solidage canadensis Linn.) were studied during 2001. Stem length varied from L1 -10 cm to L9–50 cm with 5 cm interval (L2–15, L3–20, L4–25 L5–30, L6–35 ly40 and L,-45 cm) and weight of panicle constituted three categories Wt -15-20g; W2-25-30g, W3-35-40g with three replications. Stems with 40–45 cm length and 35–40 g panicle weight showed higher water uptake and more nunber of open inflorescences per panicle. Maximum vase life was observed in stem with 50 cm length (8.78 day) and was at par to those with 45 cm stem length (8.56 day). Least degradation in quality was observd in 45 cm long stems and panicles of 35-40g weight.
