Abstract

Ectopic (or aberrant) salivary gland develops at a site, where it is not normally found. Ectopic gland tissues are reported as a single anomaly and may be present in lip, tongue, in the cervical area near the parotid gland or in the body of the mandible, posterior to the first molar. Here, we report two cases having lip deformities due to presence of ectopic salivary gland tissue. The surgical approach for the presence of ectopic salivary gland tissue in the upper and lower lip causing deformity in the lips is the same as to repair cleft lip and lip notch. The only difference between the two lip surgeries is that in ectopic salivary gland tissue deformity, no involvement of any musculature of lip as it is found in cleft lip surgery e.g. orbicularis oris. The only objective in ectopic salivary tissue surgery is to achieve esthetic and removal of excessive salivary gland tissue.
