Abstract

Odontomas are benign tumors of odontogenic origin characterized by their limited and slow growth. They consist of enamel, dentine, cementum and pulpal tissue and constitute 22% of all odontogenic tumors. Two types of odontomas are recognized: compound and complex. The first is approximately twice as common as complex odontomas. The odontoma is perhaps more aptly defined as a hamartoma than a true neoplasm. It is most often associated with an unerupted or impacted tooth. This study highlights a case of complex odontoma in a 25 year old male patient associated with unerupted second molar. The significance of documentation is the rarity of occurence of complex odontoma in the Jammu province.
