Periodontal diseases in children and adolescents can be limited to the gingival tissues or manifest by destruction of periodontal connective tissue attachment and loss of alveolar bone, which may jeopardize the longetivity of the deciduous and permanent dentition. Gingival inflammation in children is enhanced in pubertal and prepubertal period. Therefore, prevention followed by early detection and treatment should be the practical approach towards management of periodontal diseases in children and adolescents.
