Abstract

The retrocuspid papilla (RCP) is a soft well circumscribed nodule characteristically located lingual to the mandibular cuspid on the gingival tissue surface. It is considered an anatomic landmark because of its constantly definite relationship to the cuspid in the normal dental arch. The RCP is observed more frequently in young children and regresses or disappears with age. The principal reason we present this case is to avoid misdiagnosis of similarly appearing lesions. RCP is a unique entity that can be diagnosed clinically and should be differentiated from similarly appearing pathologic conditions to avoid unnecessary surgical interventions.
