The transverse strength of denture base resin is of great concern and many approaches have been used to strengthen acrylic resin dentures. The objectives of this study were two fold: Firstly, to compare the transverse strength of conventional denture base resin and denture base resin reinforced with 1wt% and 2wt% glass fibres; secondly, to compare the transverse strength of conventional denture base resin and denture base resin reinforced with 1wt% and 2wt% polypropylene fibres.
The highest transverse strength was produced by incorporation of 2wt% glass fibres, where as lowest values were obtained from specimens containing 2wt% polypropylene fibres. Incorporation of 1wt% glass fibres and polypropylene fibres had no significant effect on the transverse strength.
