Cellulitis Caused By Unusual Calculus

Infections of dental origin usually originate from progressive dental caries or extensive periodontal disease. In the majority of patients these infections are minor and resolve either by spontaneous drainage through the gingival tissues of the tooth or by extraction of the offending tooth. Unfortunately, these minor tooth-related infections occasionally become serious and life-threatening. This case report presents a unique case of calculus deposition. A 46 year old female patient presented with a mass of calculus in relation to the lower central and lateral incisors with associated swelling and pain which was indicative of cellulitis and space infection. The entire mass was removed along with extraction of the associated teeth. Thus, timely intervention prevented any further complications.
