Photography has an important role to play in all specialities of dentistry and is very useful in diagnosis and treatment planning and record keeping for varied clinical situations.
This exciting medium has never been utilized to its optimum potential in dentistry. Training in dental photographic techniques and use of the right equipment has not been highlighted in most of the post graduate training programmes in the country. Modern day dental teaching and clinical practice demand that teachers and clinicians have a good knowledge of photographic equipment and techniques so that communication, diagnosis and record maintenance procedures can be enhanced to global standards. The aim of this two part article is to disseminate information about the art and science of this exciting medium into workplaces for the over-all betterment of the profession.
