Assessment of Oral Health Status and Treatment needs of students among Maharishi Markandeshwar University.
A cross-sectional study was conducted on 1,233 students of Maharishi Markandeshwar University from eight colleges, using modified World Health Organsation 1997 format.
Of the 1,233 students, 51.7% were females and 48.3% were males. Mean age was 19.7 years. Most of the subjects 63.3% (780) belonged to normal range of body mass index (BMI) that is 18.5–24.99. And 17.8% (219) subjects belonged to <18.5 BMI. In all, 10.1% (125) of subjects had anaemia. The mean decayed missing filled teeth (DMFT) was 1.58. Maximum subjects 46.1% (568) had a community periodontal index (CPI) score of ‘0’, 12.2% (151) had a CPI score of ‘1’, 41.3% (509) had CPI score of ‘2’ and only 0.4% (5) subjects had CPI score of ‘3’.
Almost two-third of the subjects had normal BMI and one-tenth of the subjects had anaemia. Less than half of the subjects suffered with dental caries. More than half of the subjects require oral prophylaxis and more than 1/3rd of the subjects had dental fluorosis.
