The interaction between periodontology and restorative dentistry plays an important role in many aspects including the location of restorative margins, crown contours and response of all gingival tissues to restorative preparations. Most of the clinicians are aware of this inter-relationship, but the dilemma remains concerning specific concepts such as biologic width (BW), its maintenance and applications of crown lengthening in cases of BW violation.
