Dental caries or tooth decay is a pathological process of localized destruction of tooth tissues by microorganisms. (Latin: cariesrottenness). It is something of paradox that teeth can be destroyed relatively rapidly in vivo and yet are almost indestructible post mortem. A variant of dental caries – Rampant dental caries distinctively characterized by the uncontrolled destruction of the dentition by caries is perhaps one of the most difficult problems to manage both from restorative and preventive aspect. This article emphasizes the manifestations and importance of management of rampant caries.
