Oral mucosal melanoma (OMM) is an extremely rare malignancy accounting for < 0.5% of all melanomas and all oral malignancies. The clinical presentation of a malignant melanoma is usually a brownblack coloured swelling with or without ulceration; it is usually asymptomatic in the early stage. The common site of its occurrence is the palate and the gingiva, being affected in 80% of the cases. Unpredictable and widespread metastasis is a well known feature of malignant melanoma and this malignancy has an extremely poor prognosis. A case of Amelanotic melanoma of the floor of the mouth in a 58 year old female patient is presented.
