Abstract

Medication errors are a pervasive and a cumbersome problem. 222 Prescriptions were randomly collected from various responsible groups of medical and dental professionals and the art of prescription writing was evaluated. Each prescription was individually checked for 15 different parameters. Only 3 prescriptions (1.35%) were found to be ideal. The age of the patient and the register no were missing in 179(80.6%) and 159(71.62%) prescriptions respectively. Prescribing is an important responsibility, Potential to do harm as well as good. Good prescribing is fundamental to being a good doctor. Active interventions aimed at reducing prescription errors and prescribing faults are strongly recommended.
