Abstract

Plants have been a major source of medicine since the time of Vedic ages. India has a rich history of using plants for medicinal purposes. Turmeric (Curcuma longa L.) is a medicinal plant extensively used in Ayurveda, Unani and Siddha medicine as home remedy forvarious diseases. This article reviews various pharmacological actions of turmeric including its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anticarcinogenic properties.
