Extra-oral hemangioma of lip and cheek involving the gingiva – a case report

The term hemangioma has traditionally been used to describe a variety of developmental vascular anomalies. It is a benign tumour composed of blood vessels and are generally developmental in origin. It is often present at birth but may become more apparent during life. The tumours appear as a flat or raised reddish-blue lesions and are generally solitary. It may be slowly progressive in nature. Function may be affected where development of the lesion is extra-invasive. Although its occurrence in gingiva is rare but here we report a case of gingival hemangioma with reddish purplish discolored patch on left side of face. It is of clinical importance to the dental profession and require appropriate clinical management. Dental practitioners and oral surgeons need to be aware of these lesions because they may pose serious bleeding risks.
