Abstract

For correct diagnosis of head and neck pathologies, several diagnostic modalities have been used including intra-oral radiography, panoramic radiography, Ultrasonography, Computed Tomography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, and Nuclear Medicine methods. Out of these, Ultrasonography is a relatively inexpensive and readily available real time imaging technique that is well tolerated by patients. The application of Color and Power Doppler offers an opportunity to evaluate and determine the blood flow within the ultrasound image of the examined tissue. This imaging modality has been in use in medicine for many years. This article is an effort to review and update the clinical applications of ultrasonography in oral and maxillofacial region.
