Abstract

I have attended numerous dental society meetings & conferences and I have been surprised by the lack of awareness and knowledge regarding the current status of oral medicine as a possible dental specialty. First of all, many dentists do not know the definition or the history of oral medicine, and secondly, many think that oral medicine is already a dental specialty recognized by the ADA (American Dental Association) which is not true. Being an oral medicine clinician, through present article I wish to discuss history & scope of Oral Medicine as a dental specialty.
